Rik Kuppen completed his Master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague in the class of Ellen Corver. During the first year of his Bachelor studies he was awarded first prize following the national finale of the ‘Prinses Christina Concours’. The competition supported him with concerts and tours trough Europe and Latin America.

In 2017 Rik was part of the ‘Dutch Classical Talent Awards’, a young musical talent traject in which the four finalists develop a special performance, and perform a concert tour through major halls in the Netherlands. Together with opera-director Wim Trompert and poet Myrte Leffring, ‘Op Een Brug’ (On A Bridge) was created, in which music of Janacek and Prokofiev was intertwined with Leffring’s poetry.

In 2019 Rik was a finalist in the ‘Young Pianist Foundation Piano Competition’.

Rik is co-founder of ‘De Formule’, a piano quintet based in the Netherlands, focussing on creating unique performances of both the classical and contemporary repertoire. They step outside the regular way of performing and create a unique mixture of poetry, acting, lighting and staging in an attempt to grasp the attention of a broader audience. In 2018 they received the first prize and audience prize during ‘De Grote Kamermuziekprijs’.

Together with clarinetist Jelmer de Moed, Rik collaborates as a duo and in autumn 2019 they released their first album. Jelmer and Rik are coached at the Hanns Eisler by Martin Spangenberg and Eberhard Feltz.

Rik took part in masterclasses with many great musicians such as Edith Fischer, Naum Grubert, Dmitri Bashkirov, Ronald Brautigam, Avedis Kouyoumdjian, Hatto Beyerle, Johannes Meissl, Reinbert de Leeuw, Christa Ludwig, Elly Ameling, Helmut Deutsch, Grahams Johnson, Julius Drake and Eberhard Feltz.

Rik is gratefully supported with a Steinway & Sons grand piano from the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation.

Rik Kuppen is een veelbelovende, jonge solist en kamermusicus. Veelvuldig te horen op het podium en onderdeel van vernieuwende, succesvolle ensembles is hij 1e prijswinnaar van het Prinses Christina Concours, finalist van het YPF volgde het Dutch Classical Talent traject, waar hij werd omschreven als een ‘kleurenvirtuoos’.

In 2018 won hij samen met zijn pianokwintet De Formule De Grote Kamermuziekprijs. De Formule is een experimenteel ensemble dat bijzondere voorstellingen maakt en kunstdisciplines combineert. Hun laatste voorstelling Gevangen in De Formule, gemaakt in samenwerking met het NJO, was een groot succes. ‘Deze voorstelling heeft mij ten diepste geraakt. Muzikaal en theatraal zorgden de fantastische musici van het ensemble voor een intense, onvergetelijke vertolking van Shostakovich’ pianokwintet, waarin alles perfect klopte en elkaar versterkte: een ‘gesamtkunstwerk’ in de ware zin des woord. Zo’n voorstelling is een zeldzaamheid, de tijd staat stil,’ schreef Truze Lodder.

Hij vormt al jaren een vast duo met klarinettist Jelmer De Moed. In december 2019 kwam hun EP Dwaallicht uit met stukken van Robert Schumann en Alban Berg. Onlangs waren zij te gast in het segment ‘jonge helden’ van het programma Podium Witteman.

Van het Nationaal Muziekinstrumentenfonds heeft Rik een Steinway & Sons O-vleugel in bruikleen.

As of 2019, pianist Anne Brackman is no longer a member of the Brackman Trio. She has decided to rearrange her musical career. Anne has been involved in the Brackman Trio from the beginning; we look back on a beautiful musical period with her.

For the upcoming concerts, the Brackman Trio will work with various pianists until the vacancy is filled.

Met ingang van 2019 maakt pianiste Anne Brackman geen deel meer uit van het Brackman Trio. Zij heeft besloten haar muzikale loopbaan een andere inhoud te geven. Anne is vanaf het begin betrokken geweest bij het Brackman Trio; we kijken met haar op een mooie muzikale periode terug.

Voor de komende concerten werkt het Brackman Trio met verschillende pianisten samen, totdat de vacature ingevuld zal zijn.
